Many areas of Bihar faced heavy rain from 25th to 29th September. Water entered 80% of the houses in the capital Patna. The four rivers near Patna, Son, Ganga, Gandak and Punpun was above the danger mark. The release of 2.75 lakhs cuses of water from Indrapuri barrage across the Some river has worsened the situation in river Ganga which caused panic among people living Patna.
24 districts including the capital city Patna was affected. 35 people died in Bihar after incessant rain in the area, including capital Patna. During the flood, some of worst impacted areas were slums in Patna. the slum areas Rajendra Nagar area, Ramakrishna Nagar, Kankarbagh, Boring Road, Nala Road, Gandhi Maidan are among the worst-affected localities in Patna. The Patliputra Colony and Kurji are also severly water logged. These slums faced severe flooding; causing damages to the houses and remained inhabitable for many days afterwards.
The sudden outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic sent the whole world into a whihrlwind. Countries got a high amount of COVID-19 infections and many people died. Keeping this in mind, the Government of India announced a nation wide lockdown. This was a vital step in putting brakes on the infection rate.
All workplaces, except the essential sector, came to a standstill and people were told to stay indoors as the deadly virus started to spread rapidly. The people who suffered most becuase of this situation were the migrant workers.
Neither were they able to earn to feed their families nor were they able to travel back home for survival, putting them in deep trouble. Seeing their grave situation, NEST came forward to provide them with free food for survival.
